A retired computer programming instructor in Nanaimo is putting true north patriotism to the test with the Canada 150 Trivia Quiz.
Kirk McDougall launched the trivia game app in May.
The game and has options for single or multiple players and can be played in a ‘true-or-false’ mode or players can select from a range of categories to answer multiple choice questions. There’s also a special challenge mode.
“There’s the Canada 150 challenge, which is 150 questions all about Canada, with no extra lives, so you have to answer those all 100 per cent correct, so it’s quite a challenge,” McDougall said.
There is an alternative to having to start the quiz over for those who fail the quiz. It’s called a power up. The player who clicks on that option is forced to watch an ad before continuing with the remainder of the quiz.
Why design a quiz app? McDougall, who is retired, said he was looking for something to do.
“There’s this program called Unity (game design software) which makes it fairly easy to program,” McDougall said. “I managed to put [the quiz app] together, with some help from the templates and things like that, in about a month.”
McDougall turned to the internet to do his research to compile the quiz’s trivia questions and cross-reference them for accuracy.
McDougall said this is the first game app he’s published.
What happens when a player answers all questions correctly?
“Well, I can’t really give that away. You’ll have to play it and find out,” McDougall said.
