Adult steals bike from nine-year-old in Nanaimo

Nanaimo police are investigating an incident where a nine-year-old boy said he was robbed of a bicycle.

According to Const. Gary O’Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman, the incident took place March 25 at 5 p.m. near Nanaimo Aquatic Centre. The victim said he and his brother were standing at the intersection of Third Street and Wakesiah Avenue and were approached by a man.

“This person asked the two what time it was then said, ‘Time to steal your bike.’ He then threatened to punch the youth before forcibly taking his bike,” O’Brien said. “The male was last seen riding off eastbound along Third Street on the bike, described as a grey Devinci Jackson. Patrols of the area proved negative in locating the suspect.”

O’Brien said video surveillance was obtained and the suspect is described as white, between 25-35 years old, standing 5-foot-6 with a thin build and short blond hair. He was wearing a black jacket, blue jeans, beige Timberland boots and white-rimmed sunglasses.
