A 70-year-old woman in Qualicum Beach awoke to find an intruder in her bedroom at 4 a.m. this morning.

According to a press release from Oceanside RCMP, police received a report in that an intruder had fled a Willow Road home on Wednesday after “a short struggle.”

A police dog was brought to the scene but wasn’t able to establish a track. Forensic investigators collected evidence today and police will also canvass the neighbourhood trying to find out more information.

The suspect is 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10 with a stocky build and may have been wearing a flat hat like a beret.

“At this time, it is unclear what his intentions were,” the press release notes.

Police believe the suspect gained entry to the home through an unlocked garage door. RCMP remind the public to be aware of leaving doors and windows unlocked.

Anyone with information is asked to call Oceanside RCMP at 250-248-6111 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
