A three-vehicle crash at the intersection of Mary Ellen Drive and the Island Highway in north Nanaimo left drivers and passengers shaken but unhurt on Monday night.

The collision happened at about 8 p.m. and delayed traffic, which was relatively light at the time, through the intersection until the wreckage was cleared.

According to ICBC statistics, the intersection averages more than a dozen crashes annually. The intersection was the scene of a fatality in 2016, when a teenage girl was struck by a vehicle in September and died in hospital in October.
