Update - RCMP investigating body discovered on beach in Nanaimo

The B.C. Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a woman who

was found deceased on Invermere Beach Tuesday.

She is Mei Ying Zhang, 83, of Nanaimo.


Passersby walking on the beach discovered Zhang's body on the beach,

at about 2 p.m.

Her identification was confirmed after her family had reported her missing to the RCMP. Zhang's family have been notified of her death.

The B.C. Coroners Service, along with the Nanaimo RCMP Forensic Identification Unit, conducted an investigation of the scene before the body was recovered at about 5 p.m.

Police have determined the victim was an elderly woman who lived nearby. Investigators notified her immediate family   Tuesday evening of her death.

The Nanaimo RCMP is continuing its investigation with the B.C. Coroners Service, but foul play is not suspected.  An autopsy is expected to be carried out in the near future.
