Nanaimo Mounties are trying to track down a suspect who robbed a woman at gunpoint Wednesday.

According to police, the victim was making an ATM withdrawal at about 9:30 p.m. from the TD Canada Trust at the corner of Nicol Street and Esplanade, near Port Place Shopping Centre, when a man, with his face covered by a ski mask and holding a black handgun, came up and demanded she hand over her cash. He then fled through the Port Place Shopping Centre parking lot.

A police dog services team managed to follow the suspect's trail to where it ended at Promenade Drive near Cameron Island.

The suspect is described as Caucasian, about 5-foot-7 and overweight. He was wearing a dark ski mask, dark baggie clothing and a red basketball jersey and dark-coloured winter jacket with a fur collar.
