Photo gallery: 2014 Nanaimo Summer Games opening ceremony

The 2014 Nanaimo Summer Games officially began with the opening ceremony last night at Rotary Bowl stadium.

Athletes from all eight zones in B.C. marched into the stadium, including the home Vancouver Island-Central Coast team (Zone 6), and gold medal-winning Olympian Simon Whitfield not only addressed the crowd with a speech but participated in the torch-lighting relay as well.

The Games take place until Sunday (July 20).
