Night fire

Red flame spits from the muzzle of Pte. Jesse Van Roon’s C7 assault rifle as a target appears downrange during night firing training at Nanaimo Military Rifle Range June 26.

Training at dusk teaches recruits to quickly identify and hit targets in fading, low-contrast light. For many of the militia recruits, the day’s weapons orientation and marksmanship exercises were their first experience with firearms.
