Lantzville historic society plans dispersed museum
A “dispersed museum” could soon put Lantzville's history on display.
The Lantzville Historical Society is working on a series of small, public exhibits to feature the history of the village.
Over the years, the society has collected several thousand documents, photographs and artifacts on everything from early farming to the community's coal mining past, but has had no place to showcase them. According to Brian Blood, a historical society member, the organization has pushed to see a museum at the district's heritage church for more than two decades but hasn't been able to win political support. Now it's planning a dispersed museum project, which could see themed and rotating displays at places like Seaview School and the municipal district office.
“It's the next best thing to having a museum and we will see what happens,” Blood said, adding it's still a stop-gap measure. “Without a real effort to feature Lantzville's unique history we will lose it.”
