Cpl. Paul Minkley, left, emergency response team leader, watches David Fraser, 12, as he gets a feel for what it’s like to suit up for an emergency response team mission during the Nanaimo RCMP detachment’s open house Saturday.

Hundreds of visitors met police, checked out crime fighting equipment and took guided tours through the detachment. A hamburger barbecue at the event also raised cash for Crime Stoppers.
