East Wellington Volunteer Fire Department put out an abandoned vehicle fire in the Maxey Road area Tuesday morning.

A white Ford F-150 pick up truck was found in a ditch in the 2600 block of Maxey Road and according to Steve Ellis, East Wellington fire chief, the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on the scene. It is not currently known how the truck ended up there.

“There was no one around, so we're having it investigated and find out what was the cause of the truck in the ditch,” Ellis said, adding there was nothing to suggest that anyone was injured in the accident.

While it was snowing, road conditions were not bad, according to Ellis.

“It's wet roads, it is winter time and it is snowing but it doesn't look too bad for road conditions,” he said.
