Nanaimo RCMP search for owner of wallet

Two employees of Columbia Bakery, at 2151 Bowen Rd, thought it was odd that none of the staff remembered finding a wallet they discovered among other items in the company’s lost and found, so they decided to open it up to see if there was some identification inside.

They didn’t find any ID. What they did find was a substantial amount of Canadian cash.

“None of the employees remember finding the wallet or putting it in lost and found,” said Const. Gary O’Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman.

The box often contains the usual scarves, umbrellas and sunglasses and most items eventually make their way back to their owners. A wallet was odd. For it to have a large amount of cash was even stranger.

So far police have determined the wallet was added to the lost and found sometime in December.

“We’re not disclosing the amount of cash or details about the wallet,” O’Brien said. “It is a very distinctive wallet.”

To claim the wallet or to offer more information, please call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345.
