Search turns up no signs of vehicle accident

Nanaimo Search and Rescue volunteers came up empty handed after they were called out to follow up on what appeared to be a vehicle mishap on Mount Benson.

Search teams were mobilized Thursday shortly after 8 p.m. when two men called 911 reporting that they had seen vehicle headlights coming down the mountain and then disappear, as if the vehicle had slid out of control, which was followed by a noise that sounded like a landslide.

Search and rescue teams were directed to the area indicated by the witnesses, but found no signs of a vehicle, its occupants or a landslide and finally called off the search at about 4 a.m. Friday.
