Nanaimo man charged in Ladysmith robbery attempt
Ladysmith Mounties have bagged a third suspect and charged two other men allegedly involved in a robbery attempt of the Chuckwagon Market.
The series of incidents leading up to the arrests started about 10:30 p.m. Friday when police responded to an attempted armed robbery at the convenience store, located at the south intersection of Cedar and Yellow Point roads, after a man walked into the store, produced a large knife and demanded the clerk hand over cash. That plan fell apart when the clerk recognized the suspect and spoke to him causing the suspect to run out of the store.
Police arrested two of the suspects in Nanaimo early Saturday when the men were found with their crashed car on Maxey Road, about two hours after the robbery attempt.
Charges of robbery and disguise with intent have been approved by the Crown against Brent Lloyd Nogier, 20, of Nanaimo. Tyler James Wardrope, 21, of Langford, has been charged with robbery and flight from a peace officer.
Both men are being held in custody until they make their next appearances in Duncan provincial court – Wardrope, Friday (Aug. 30); Nogier, Tuesday (Sept. 3).
No charges are pending against a 45-year-old Nanaimo man who was taken into custody at the accident scene Saturday.
