Burning bans lifted
Nanaimo Fire Rescue has good news for people wanting to roast marshmallows and hotdogs over a backyard campfire over the Labour Day weekend.
Due to the recent rain and cooler weather, Nanaimo Fire Rescue has lifted the burning ban for ceremonial fires and residential backyard cooking fires as well as campfires in privately owned and commercial campgrounds.
Backyard burning, however, is still banned within city limits.
A campfire ban has also been lifted in the coastal fire region due to decreased risk of wildfires.
Campfires cannot be larger than a half-metre wide by half-metre high.
A hand tool, such as a shovel, must be nearby, plus at least eight litres of water to fully extinguish it.
Never leave a campfire unattended and make sure that the ashes are completely cold to the touch before leaving the area.
