ERT called in for drugs, weapons search

Nanaimo RCMP, backed up by the Island District Emergency Response Team, turned up a small amount of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and two replica handguns Friday.

The raid happened at about 11:20 p.m. at a home in the 2400 block of Bowen Road.

Two men and one woman found in the residence were arrested and later released from custody.

Police were unable to distinguish the replica handguns from real ones until they were able to physically examine them.

Because replicas appear to be working firearms, police officers treat any person in possession of a replica as if they are operating real firearms.

The investigation is continuing.
