Police collar suspect in theft of batteries
Police arrested a man early Wednesday for stealing batteries from a Canadian Tire store in North Nanaimo.
Mounties were called in about 3:30 a.m. by security staff who spotted a man on surveillance cameras taking batteries and loading them into a pickup truck.
The suspect left the scene before they could arrive, but using a description of him and the vehicle, police spotted the truck on Dover Road, pulled it over and arrested the suspect.
The batteries, along with other batteries and power tools from Wal-Mart and Home Depot were found in the truck. Charges are pending for those items.
The 35-year-old Nanaimo man has been released on a promise to appear in Nanaimo provincial court May 21 to face a recommended charge of breaking and entering.
