Food bank donation secures test drive on Segway machine

With alternative transportation on the minds of most people these days, a Victoria-based company is showing off its wares and helping fill the shelves of Nanaimo’s Loaves and Fishes Community Food Bank.

Glide/Segway Victoria is hosting a fundraiser Friday (Aug. 24) at Bowen Park’s lower picnic shelter from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and anyone who brings a non-perishable food donation for the food bank gets a ride on a Segway PT.

Segway is a two-wheeled, self balancing electric personal transport designed for easy operation over everyday terrain.

The fundraiser includes a relay challenge and refreshments.

Loaves and Fishes Community Food Bank serves more than 1,000 people a week out of its main office at 1009 Farquhar St., as well as seven satellite food bank locations.
