City to seek federal money for Departure Bay seawall
Nanaimo city council will seek federal money to improve the seawall and spray park at Departure Bay.
If approved, the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund would supply 50 per cent of the project's cost, with the city picking up the balance through development cost charges reserves.
The total cost of the project is expected to be $600,000 and would make the seawall more accessible for people with mobility challenges. The spray park is 20 years old and already slated for upgrades.
Other options that also fit federal grant criteria include improvements at Harewood Centennial Park and the Caledonia Field grandstands.
Western Economic Diversification Canada will administer the funds and will have about $46 million to allocate.
