Islands Trust freezes taxes
Taxpayers living on islands between the mainland and southern Vancouver Island, will not see a change in their taxes this year.
The Islands Trust Council approved its 2012-13 budget of $6.8 million at a meeting on Gabriola Island Wednesday.
The budget holds taxes at 2011 levels and rejects a bid to use a $250,000 grant from Canada’s Gas Tax Fund to review the organization’s guiding principles.
Sheila Malcolmson, Islands Trust Council chairwoman, said after input from trustees and constituents, council determined that there was no appetite for such a comprehensive review.
