A teenage girl died in a rollover crash in the Stz’uminus First Nation community near Ladysmith on Sunday.

According to a press release from the Ladysmith RCMP, a pickup truck with three teen occupants went off the road into a ditch and rolled over. RCMP and emergency services were called to the scene along Church Road at about 7 p.m. last night.

The 16-year-old female driver and a 13-year-old female passenger were able to free themselves.

“Tragically, the third occupant, a 14-year-old girl, died at the scene,” said the press release. “The RCMP investigation continues, as alcohol is suspected to be a factor.”

No names are being released.
