Stabbing sends man to hospital

One man was sent to hospital and police are looking for suspects following a stabbing in Nanaimo Thursday.

The incident happened about 11:30 p.m. outside of the Level 2 night club at 170 Skinner St.

The victim, 23, was at the night club celebrating his birthday with friends and family.

"He went outside and said he got involved in an altercation with unknown men, at which point he said he was stabbed," said Const. Gary O'Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman.

The victim's brother took him to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital where doctors confirmed he had a stab wound in his lower back.

"The bar is co-operating," O'Brien said. "We're looking at video surveillance and we're asking for the public's assistance to determine anybody saw or heard anything."

O'Brien did not have information updating the condition of the victim.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.nanaimocrimestoppers.com.
