Mounties find stolen Canucks jersey with suspected meth lab
Mounties found a missing Kirk McLean jersey and a possible meth lab Wednesday during their search for a Nanaimo man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant.
Police searched a property in the 2200 block of White Rapids Road, where they found Kerry Chang, 43, who was wanted for parole violations. Chang was arrested after a police dog found him hiding in bushes on the property.
Two other men, including the property owner and a visitor, were also arrested. The property owner was released Thursday on a promise to appear in Nanaimo provincial court to face a recommended charge of possession of stolen property.
The visitor was released unconditionally.
Police found the signed Kirk McLean hockey jersey stolen during a break in from Artfitterz, Custom Frame Shop and Fine Art Gallery in June and also seized fishing gear and a pickup truck they suspect was stolen.
Officers also discovered a suspected crystal methamphetamine lab in a recreational vehicle on the property.
RCMP clandestine lab experts were brought in from Vancouver to investigate the vehicle Thursday morning and determined it contained chemicals to produce methamphetamine, but not an active lab.
