Nanaimo Cash Store robbery suspect arrested

Nanaimo Mounties have arrested a man suspected of robbing The Cash Store in Terminal Park Plaza.

The front of the store was demolished early Monday when a vehicle was driven into the front of the business and a chain used to haul a safe, containing an undisclosed quantity of cash, out of the building.

Damage to the storefront was estimated in excess of $5,000.

Police later recovered a stolen Dodge Dakota pickup they believe was used in the robbery in central Nanaimo.

Floyd Travis, 32, was arrested Wednesday after carrying out a search warrant on Travis’s residence, where they found the safe.

Travis appeared in Nanaimo provincial court Thursday on a charge of possession of stolen property obtained by crime.

Investigators are following up several leads to other people suspected of being involved in the robbery.

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.nanaimocrimestoppers.com.
