Fiesta of flavour at Delicado's
People looking for a fiesta of flavours to appease their lunchtime cravings can get a mouthful of satisfaction at Delicado’s.
Dan Porteous, who has frequented the restaurant for more than 20 years, knows that when he wants something good to eat, Delicado’s fare will hit the spot.
The veggie rollup with curry is his favourite lunchtime treat.
“It’s nice that people can switch it up because you can ask for different flavours and customize it,” he said.
The restaurant was voted the spot to nab the best lunches in the News Bulletin’s annual Best of the City survey.
“It is very exciting and we are very happy with that. We certainly do strive to please everybody with a wide variety in our menu,” said Shavon Ganderton, manager of Delicado’s north end location, adding there are gluten and dairy free options available. “It’s great that people continue to love us.”
Popular lunch items include the half wrap of salad and the salad plate. The salads are made fresh from scratch and everything is made daily including the dressings.
“The southwest specialty wrap is by far our number one seller,” said Maria Gusola, who co-owns the restaurant with her sister Gina Couchman.
Gusola said Delicado’s also has a standing tradition of filling the orders of people in uniform who are on duty right away, such as police, firemen and ambulance paramedics.
Delicado’s has two locations in Nanaimo – at 404-6581 Aulds Rd. and at 358 Wesley Street. The south end location’s top favourite lunch items are the southwest chicken rollups, California rollup and tortilla pie.
All Delicado’s restaurants are independently owned and operated.
