Indie rock band China Syndrome is performing at the Cambie Saturday (June 11) to promote its third album The Usual Angst.

“I was wracking my brain trying to think of a title for the album so my wife asked me what the overall theme of the album is and I spontaneously  said ‘oh, the usual angst.’ We both thought it was funny and appropriate for the title so we went with it,” said Tim Chan, singer-songwriter, in a press release.

The Vancouver-based band takes the stage at 9 p.m. with special guests: Nanaimo’s Teenage Tiger and Victoria’s the Tower of Dudes.

China Syndrome plays what it dubs rockin’ melodic power pop and its new album covers a variety of topics.

Songs such as It’s Happening Over Again talk about global geopolitics, and lyrics in Corner of Gore and Pender discuss the hardship of poverty. The song Humble Pie is  a tribute to the late singer-guitarist Steve Marriott. The band also draws influences from 1960s and ’70s classic rock.

The Usual Angst and the band’s previous albums, Nothing’s Not Worth Knowing, released in 2011, and China Syndrome, 2007,  were created at Vancouver’s JC/DC Studio by David Carswell.
