Order of Canada recipient performs

Order of Canada recipient and pianist Jane Coop will be showcasing her talents in Nanaimo next month.

Coop, who has performed at some of the world’s most prestigious venues, including the Beijing Concert Hall and John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in New York City, will be performing at the Port Theatre on Feb. 16. The concert will feature works from composers such as Beethoven, Scarlatti, Brahms, Chopin, and Rachmaninoff.

“I am incredibly excited to introduce Beethoven’s Sonata in D major during my Nanaimo program, which is a wonderful piece that I have wanted to learn for decades, but only now just found the time for,” Coop said, in a press release.

In addition to her performance, Coop will also be holding a public workshop to coach young local piano players on Feb. 15 at 2:30 p.m. The workshops are designed for advanced young piano players in the Nanaimo region.
