Quartet hosts workshop, concert in Lantzville
To hear the Silver Birch String Quartet play is to listen in on a finely tuned, four-way conversation, in which each participant speaks simultaneously and communicates with perfect clarity.
This dynamic quartet will perform a varied program of classical and modern works, including String Quartet No. 4 by Joseph Haydn, L’errance....hommage à Wim Wenders by Robert Lemay, and String Quartet No.3 by Alexander von Zemlinsky, during a performance in Lantzville.
The quartet performs Thursday (July 19), 7 p.m. at St. Philip’s By-the-Sea Anglican Church in Lantzville, as well as bringing their music, mastery and enthusiasm to a workshop for string players.
Named after the trees inhabiting the area around their home, Sudbury’s Juno Award-nominated Silver Birch String Quartet is an innovative one, earning the admiration of audiences and critics for their vibrant performances.
The quartet has collaborated in concert with some of Canada’s finest chamber musicians, and its long association with Montreal-based jazz pianist John Roney resulted in their first album Silverbirch, which earned critical acclaim, as well as a 2010 Juno nomination.
The Silver Birch String Quartet has recently been named Quartet in Residence at Laurentian University.
In addition to the concert, the quartet is offering a workshop for string players from 2-4 p.m. on the same day, open to players of any level.
Tickets are $30 for the workshop. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
For tickets to the concert, which are $20, please see Performing Fabrics and Dancewear, 6750 North Island Hwy., or get them at the door.
