Women Who Care donate to Nanoose Community Services

Oceanside group has made more than $700,000 in donations over seven years

The 100-plus Women Who Care Oceanside group has donated $34,000 to Nanoose Community Services.

The charity received the most votes at the organization’s April 10 meeting.

The group recently celebrated its seventh anniversary and now has 340 members.

Since its foundation, the group has donated more than $700,000 to charities in the Parksville Qualicum Beach area.

The members meet four times a year to nominate and vote on worthy charities. Each member writes a cheque to the charity for $100, which translates into $10,000 or more.

Nanoose Community Services is a non-profit society which provides support in the form of grocery gift cards to help registered clients with at least one week’s worth of food per month; culinary skill sharing; referrals to partner agencies in the region; emergency dental and optical care and Christmas gifts for families and seniors.
