Canadian Cancer Society’s Nanaimo Unit is kicking off its major annual fundraising drive in style.

April is Daffodil Month when Canadian Cancer Society volunteers pound the pavement in a door-to-door campaign for donations supporting cancer research and patient support programs.

In Nanaimo Daffodil Month kicks off with the Daffodil Tea and Fashion Show and Silent Auction at the Nanaimo Golf Club, located at 2800 Highland Blvd.

Local cancer survivors, their family members and supporters will hit the runway to display the latest spring and summer fashion trends from Nanaimo’s women’s and men’s fashion retailers.

Sue Carlson, the event’s coordinator at the Canadian Cancer Society Nanaimo Unit, said more than 20 models will strut outfits from at least 10 stores at the event.

“It’s a couple of hours,” Carlson said. “Come and spend a delightful Sunday afternoon. Have a glass of wine and a cup of tea, see some gorgeous new clothes and spend your money in the silent auction.”

Auction items up for grabs, include gift certificates, paintings, a round of golf for four including golf carts and dozens of other items from Nanaimo’s major retailers.

The Daffodil Tea and Fashion Show and Silent Auction happens March 26 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $25 per person or $225 for a table of 10. Seating is limited to 130, so book early.

Carlson is still looking for more male models for this year’s fashion show and she is also looking for volunteer canvassers for this year’s door-to-door fundraising campaign.

“I’m desperately looking for canvassers in all areas of Nanaimo, Cedar, Gabriola and Ladysmith,” Carlson said.
