Oil sands documentary screening tonight at VIU

White Water, Black Gold documents touring the Athabasca River and examining oil’s impact on water

Cinema Politica Nanaimo is holding a screening of an oil sands documentary, White Water, Black Gold, tonight (June 27) at VIU.

The award-winning film by David Lavallee documents travelling along the Athabasca River and examining oil’s impact on water.

Guest speakers at tonight’s screening include Sheila Malcolmson, Nanaimo-Ladysmith MP; and Torrance Coste of the Wilderness Committee and there will be audience discussion. The VIU Faculty Association, Vancouver Island Water Watch, VIU Students for Social Change and the Mid Island Council of Canadians co-sponsor the screening.

Admission is free by donation. The show starts at 7 p.m. at Vancouver Island University’s building 200, room 203.
