It’s a mix of sport and suds, and it’s coming back to Vancouver Island.

The 5K Foam Fest will be held June 10 at Nanoose Bay’s Arbutus Meadows Equestrian Centre. It’s the second year in a row that the Foam Fest tour is making a local stop.

Event spokeswoman Kelsey Cole said last year’s Nanoose stop was the most successful event of the tour.

“It felt like the whole Island came out and it was a phenomenal time,” she said.

Jesse Fulton, Foam Fest president and founder, said in an e-mail that organizers are “stoked” to be returning to Arbutus Meadows.

“Coming back to Nanaimo is very exciting…” he said. “There are some fun new things in the works.”

Foam Fest is a five-kilometre course with obstacles such as slides, cargo net, log roll and mud pit.

“There’s over 22 obstacles and we pump 2.5 million cubic feet of foam into every single obstacle course,” said Cole.

People can run or walk the course, as individuals or as teams. Anyone ages eight and up can participate.

“I’m fit, but I’m no Jane Fonda and I did it last year and had a blast,” Cole said. “So as long as you can have a laugh, you can have fun at Foam Fest.”

The registration fee goes up as the event gets closer to selling out; since the Nanoose event is 85 per cent full, cost is now $67 to sign up. For more information, please visit http://www.the5kfoamfest.com.
