A non-profit fair trade store is open for the season with new health and safety protocols in place.

Global Village Nanaimo recently opened for the fall at 6581 Aulds Rd. near Home Depot, and its online store is up and running at www.globalvillagenanaimo.com.

“Volunteers are working to ensure the unique, ethically sourced merchandise is available for the mid-Island market in a safe, comfortable environment,” noted a press release from the non-profit.

Global Village Nanaimo added in the release that it recently received a thank-you note from a partner business in Mongolia, noting that orders from a half-dozen retailers, including the Nanaimo store, have allowed the business to continue through at least next spring.

“That means that the families involved will have food, school and employment dignity for that time,” the release noted. “By supporting fair trade businesses, consumers in the mid-Island area have directly created this success.”

In addition to online shopping, Global Village Nanaimo has added curbside pickup and contactless delivery options and management says it’s flexible in working to meet clients’ shopping needs.

The store will be open six days a week through till Dec. 24. Store hours are Mondays through Saturdays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
