With great superhero powers comes great responsibility.

Superwoman, Spider-Man and other heroes embarked on a three-kilometre adventure across Nanaimo’s seawall on Saturday for a good cause.

Walk the Wall Nanaimo saw some of the 75 participants donning superhero costumes, marching around the seawall at Maffeo Sutton Park and raising over $2,000 for International China Concern, which works with the Chinese government to assist abandoned and disabled children in that country.

In a press release, Michelle Wallach, event organizer, said she has saw the terrible conditions that children with special needs live in during a visit to Hengyang, China in 2011.

“This walk is about raising awareness, funds and being a voice for those children who cannot speak for themselves,” said Wallach. “The walkathon raised over $2,000 in donations for the charity.”

Wallach said everyone enjoyed themselves and the “super-kids had a blast, crossing the finish line, winning prizes and eating superhero cupcakes.”
