The Friends of Buttertubs, a local stewardship group, has released a free trail guide map for the Buttertubs Marsh Conservation Area.

The foldable trail guide map includes points of interest and provides facts and historical information on the 40-hectare marsh. It also provides detailed information about the types of wildlife that can be found in the marsh as well as optimal viewing points.

Some of the fauna and flora at Buttertubs includes hawks, falcons, towhees, song sparrows, blue herons, osprey, beavers, river otters, bladderwort, hardhack, dogwood and crab apple.

Copies of the free trail guide map are available through City of Nanaimo parks and rec and at Tourism Nanaimo, Front Counter B.C., the Nanaimo Affordable Housing office on Buttertubs Drive and Backyard Wild Bird and Nature Store on Metral Drive.

Buttertubs Marsh is managed by the Vancouver Island Conservation Land Management Program. Roughly 75,000 people visit the wetland each year.
