Women in Nanaimo are being asked to hang up a bra for breast cancer.

The Canadian Cancer Society’s CIBC Run for the Cure is organizing a Hang Your Bra for Breast Cancer charity event on Monday (Aug. 7).

Sylvia Shedden, director of CIBC Run for the Cure Nanaimo, said people are asked to bring new or gently used bras to Beban Park near the Altrusa playground, and hang them on pink clotheslines that will be set up there.

“We’re asking our fellow Nanaimoites … to show their support in the fight for a future against breast cancer,” she said.

The bras will be donated to Haven Society’s shelters in Nanaimo and Parksville.

“Women who come to the shelters often leave their homes in a hurry and they don’t have time to bring a lot of their possessions with them, especially things like bras,” Shedden said.

The event will be held between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
