Nanaimo awarded green initative designation

The City of Nanaimo earned a green communities designation for the second-year running.

The joint provincial and Union of B.C. Municipalities Green Communities Committee has recognized Nanaimo as a B.C. Climate Action Community for completing the second level in a three-step program.

Recognition is provided annually to local governments that show progress on multiple-level Climate Action Charter.

The city has now completed the second step, which required it do a corporate carbon inventory and demonstrate it is familiar with the Community Energy and Emissions Inventory.

The final stage requires Nanaimo achieve carbon neutrality.
