Open house offers peek at seniors' programs
Nanaimo’s over-65 crowd will get a peek into programs offered by Nanaimo Harbour City Seniors during an open house later this month.
Nanaimo Harbour City Seniors is hosting a two-hour event to showcase all it has to offer, from ceramics and cribbage to carpet bowling and ballroom dancing.
It’s all aimed at encouraging more seniors to participate in activities outside their homes. People can get site tours, demonstrations of different activities and refreshments.
“[It’s] to encourage more people to come out participate in life and make new friends,” said Joanne Husband, director of programs for Nanaimo Harbour City Seniors. “It’s a time to make people feel comfortable about joining us.”
It’s not always easy for seniors to take part on activities when they don’t know who the instructors are, what the classes include and who is participating, adds Husband, who says the open house is a good introduction.
The free event will be at the Bowen Park Activity Centre, March 18 between 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
