VIU alumni recognized for community work
Vancouver Island University alumni are making significant contributions to the communities they live and work in and the school’s alumni association has created a new award to recognize their efforts.
All alumni actively engaged in volunteer and community activities that serve to better their community are eligible to receive the award and $1,000 cash prize.
“VIU alumni are leaders in their communities and the alumni association wanted to recognize their contributions and hopefully encourage others to give back as well,” said Jacqualine Johnson, alumni association president. “Many students have accumulated significant student debt by the time they graduate, so we also wanted to create this award to help alleviate some of the financial pressures they face.”
Nominees for the award must demonstrate community involvement in the form of engagement in volunteer and community activities that serve to better their community.
Involvement should be ongoing and impact the community in a meaningful way. Qualifying alumni can apply until April 30 for the $1000 award.
For more information and application forms please go to www.viu.ca/alumni. The successful applicant will be announced in September.
