VOLUNTEERS: Help needed to prepare food for event

Team Resolve Project – Leadership Vancouver Island needs volunteers to help in cafeteria preparing food. Food safety training and supervision will be provided. A criminal record check, paid by the agency, is required. CallSusan Flint at 250-755-4407 or e-mail susan.flint@nanaimo.ca.

 

Salvation Army – The Salvation Army thrift stores have volunteer openings for driver helpers, store associates and warehouse workers at 115-50 Tenth St., 1613 Bowen Rd. and 6750 North Island Hwy. Please call  Kim Maanda at 250-754-2621 or 250 713-0459.

 

Island Crisis Care Society – Numerous volunteers are needed for the third annual Sweets for the Streets silent auction and desserts night 7 p.m. April 26 at Maranatha Church, Nanaimo. Duties include emcee, ticket sellers donation solicitors, set up the events, drivers with trucks to transport items, servers, greeters and registration volunteers. Park Avenue Community School – Volunteers are needed for a June 8 fun fair. Commitment is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m with different shifts available. The fair allows the PAC to continue to provide assistance for field trips, sports equipment, hot lunches, family craft nights and movie nights. Nanaimo Brain Injury Association – A volunteer is needed to do media/digital filming and editing Tuesdays  to Thursdays. Project to be finished by June 2013. Criminal records check is needed. Please send resume by fax to 250-753-5607, e-mail nbis-m@shaw.ca or call Mark at 250-753-5600.

 

Nanaimo Travellers Lodge –  A friendly bus driver for an 18-passenger vehicle is needed to drive four to six hours a month. Must have  a class four licence and clean driving record. There is a two hour orientation session. A criminal record check is required, the cost for which is reimbursed after 20 hours of volunteer work. Sierra Club Nanaimo – A volunteer events team planner is needed. If you have an interest in environmental issues and enjoy creating displays and promotions on the computer, help is required approximately three hours a month. Pleae contact: Carla at  250-618-5326 or e-mail roaerie1@gmail.com.

 

Nanaimo Literacy Association – Volunteer for Well Read Kids program is needed four hours a week or as needed. Must like children’s books and be able to provide some cashier and customer service. Please phone Rebecca at 250-754-8988 or e-mail rebecca@literacycentrvi.org.

 

Artist’s promoter/ assistant – Volunteers are needed to help a local artist who donates most of his proceeds to a variety of charities. Assistant would help with promoting the artist’s work, set up exhibitions and network with the local arts community. Habitat for Humanity – A Re-Store aisle helper is needed to greet customers, stock shelves and help in the store Fridays and Saturdays for four-hour shifts between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.  Volunteer must commit to six months minimum. Woodgrove Senior Citizens Society – Volunteer board members (directors) are needed for this non- profit group involved with low rental apartments for seniors and handicapped people. Please call Rose Davidson at 250-390-7464 or Dale Widdifield at  250-751-2999.

 

Skana Community Resources – A volunteer musical entertainer is needed to provide musical entertainment (play instrument /sing) for adults with disabilities two or three hours per month. Errington Therapeutic Riding Association – Adult volunteers are required April 2 and continue every Tuesday and Wednesday for 11 weeks to do sidewalk assistance. Shifts are two or three hours on either of these days.  An orientation session for new volunteers takes place March 26.  A criminal record check is required. Hub City Cycles – Volunteers are needed to help in cycle shop. Skills in Microsoft Office and an interest in bicycles would helpful. Downtown location. Call Jawn, Justin or Tyler at 250-591-2159 or e-mail info@hubcitycycles.ca.
