VOLUNTEERS: Help needed throughout Black History Month

Black History Month – Nanaimo African Heritage Society needs volunteers to help organize activities for Black History Month in February. Please call 250-729-9332 or e- mail info@nanaimoafricanheritagesociety.com.
Island Crisis Care Society – Volunteers are needed for Coldest Night of the Year event Feb. 23. Duties available are registration team, food team, set-up and other support downtown at St. Paul’s Anglican Church. Please call 250-585-2577 or e-mail mouthier@icccare.ca.
Hub City Cycles – Volunteers are needed to help in cycle shop. Skills in Microsoft Office and an interest in bicycles would helpful. Downtown location. Call 250-591-2159 or e-mail info@hubcitycycles.ca.
Sierra Club Nanaimo – A volunteer events team planner is needed. If you have an interest in environmental issues and like creating displays and promotions on the computer, help is required approximately three hours a month. Pleae call 250-618-5326 or e-mail roaerie1@gmail.com.
Woodgrove Senior Citizens Society – Volunteer board members (directors) are needed for a non-profit group involved with low-rental apartments for seniors and handicapped people. Please call 250-390-7464 or 250-751-2999.
Code Dental Clinic – A volunteer reception/patient greeter is needed one or two days a week. Duties include helping manage front desk. Computer skills are required and some knowledge of a dental office is helpful but not a must. Please call 250-741-8168.
Central Island Youth Soccer Academy – Volunteers needed to coach youth soccer (6-10 year olds). Please e-mail Kim at info@ciysa.ca.
Big Brothers/Big Sisters CVI – Volunteer drivers and swampers (six to eight people) are needed every Wednesday to help with clothing drive. A safe driving record is needed and participants must be able to lift some heavy items while collecting clothes from the community. Call Craig at 250-756-2447 or e-mail craig@bigscvi.ca.
Meals on Wheels – A volunteer driver with a valid class 5 driver’s licence is neeed for meal delivery two hours per week. Training is provided. Also, a volunteer day captain is needed for four to six hours per week. Computer and organizational skills would be an asset.
