APPLAUSE: Bayview thankful for community support
To the Editor,
We have much to be thankful for at Bayview Elementary School and are fortunate to have a lot of community support throughout the year and at Christmas time. With financial support from our staff along with community agencies, a total of nineteen families – 36 of our students plus their siblings – had a better Christmas and seven children will be sleeping better thanks to the donation of new beds.
We would like to thank the generous community members who support our school in various ways.
•The Rotary Club of Nanaimo for our Christmas luncheon, donating funds to our school, and providing us with books.
•The Altrusa Club for donating money towards field trips.
•The donors to the Nanaimo-Ladysmith Schools Foundation. We have funds to access to support our students in various ways throughout the year. This year the foundation donated a new washer and dryer and stove for our lunch program.
•Larry Schroder of Promax Automotive and the Serauxmen Club of Nanaimo for donating a total of seven beds.
•The Sunshine Girls, Joan Ryan of the Rotary Club of Nanaimo, and the St. Andrew’s United Church Women’s Group for donating scarves, mitts, and toques to keep our students warm in the winter.
•The secret Santas, the News Bulletin, the Daybreak Rotary Club, Nanaimo’s Health Centre, Nanaimo Association for Community Living, a neighbourhood good citizen, and a firemen group for sponsoring families at Christmas time.
•Centry 21 Harbour Realty, Realty Executives, The HBT Group, the Rotary club of Nanaimo Oceasnside, and an anonymous former Bayview student for their donations to add to our staff donations to support families at Christmas time.
•Various community members who donated items for our Christmas store.
•Nanaimo Foodshare for the Farm to School luncheons.
•Wolfgang Carolsfeld for donating the salt water aquarium for us to use.
It takes a community to raise a child. We are very fortunate to have such community support.
