Tour de Rock riders unveiled
The 22-member team of this year’s Cops for Cancer Tour de Rock team will be introduced at the Royal B.C. Museum in Victoria Saturday (May 14).
Among the officers named for the 1,000-kilometre bike ride are three members of the media, including News Bulletin reporter/photographer Chris Bush.
The cyclists, who have trained since early March, learned if they made the cut last week. They will ride from the northern to southern tip of the Island between Sept. 24 and Oct. 7.
But the commitment extends well beyond the demanding ride. Each rider collects pledges and hosts fundraisers for pediatric cancer research and programs.
“The amount of time they put into the training, and the commitment to the cause … is substantial,” said Cynthia Durand-Smith, of the Canadian Cancer Society.
