Casino Nanaimo is putting on a performance to showcase six months of renovation work.

On Wednesday (May 10), the gaming establishment has booked a special performance by Vancouver-based rock recording artist Daniel Wesley, the first musician to take the stage at The Well Public House, billed by Casino Nanaimo as the city’s newest entertainment hot spot.

David Reynolds, Casino Nanaimo director of operations, said The Well has a jam-packed live entertainment lineup, the casino focuses on bringing in top local talent, and patrons will be able to order a good steak there, too.

“The Well Pub is jam-packed throughout May and no cover charge,” Reynolds said.

Adding more gaming to the recipe has enhanced Casino Nanaimo’s mix of gaming and live entertainment.

“We’ve done an overall refresh on the gaming floor,” Reynolds said. “We’ve added slots, we have over 400 hundreds slots now, a high-limit poker table and a high-limit slot section.”

Patrons can bet on the horses at The Racebook, an off-track betting lounge on Casino Nanaimo’s second floor that brings patrons track-side with race broadcasts from racetracks in B.C. and around the world.

“You can bet on the races. We’ll have live poker and we’ll be serving liquor. You can have food brought in too,” Reynolds said.

The renovations mean more local employment. Casino Nanaimo has hired 43 more staff to support the new entertainment amenities, bringing its total number of employees to 170. During renovation construction the company also called upon 14 local vendors and contractors.

The city has received $46.4 million from gaming revenues since Casino Nanaimo opened, according to the casino.

The pub officially opens to the public Wednesday evening, but the gaming options will be open throughout the day.
