Save-On-Foods opens new location
Save-On-Foods has a new location at Nanaimo’s Brooks Landing.
The Overwaitea Food Group hung up its Save-On sign last week, marking new ownership of the Brooks Landing grocery store.
The location was one of three Thrifty Foods stores the Overwaitea Food Group purchased this year from Sobeys. It also bought nine Safeway stores.
The sales stem from the federal Competition Bureau’s requirement that the Sobeys chain sell 23 of its grocery stores, as part of its purchase of Canada Safeway.
“We are just so excited to be able to add to our store count,” said Julie Dickson Olmstead, spokeswoman for the Overwaitea Food Group.
“It’s a different look and feel with a lot of the same product everyone loves and the same great people serving them that they are used to seeing there.”
Overwaitea took possession of the store last Wednesday and did renovations in the lead up to its opening April 18.
Darrell Jones, president of the Overwaitea Food Group, said Vancouver Island has been very important to the company since it opened its first store in Nanaimo in 1918.
“We can’t wait to welcome all the great folks from the neighbourhood to stop in and see what we have in store,” he said.
